Fourth and fifth grade students are speaking, reading, and understanding the Spanish language. They are also developing Spanish communication skills by forming complete sentences about the weather, holidays, greetings, the calendar, numbers, and some frequently used classroom instructions such as:

  • puedo ir al baño
  • tengo una pregunta
  • un momento por favor
  • levante la mano

Students learned to describe themselves using expressions such as ¿Quién soy yo?: (Who Am I?) and Todo sobre mí (All about me).  We practice pronunciation skills such as listening and singing along to Spanish songs and reading Spanish poems.

Fourth-grade students learned about Hispanic Heritage Month and created presentations about their favorite Spanish-speaking country and some famous Hispanic people. We learned to use singular and plural personal pronouns to make complete sentences.

Fifth-grade students also learned about Hispanic Heritage Month.  They created a poster explaining different features of a favorite Spanish-speaking country. The fifth-grade students are building their communication skills by using question words (cómo, cuándo, cuál, quiénes, quién, por qué, para qué, dónde, cuántos, dónde) in complete sentences. Students practice a more extended conversation by including question words in a complete sentence.

We are learning about one another and different ways to express ourselves in Spanish.
