In the second semester, the students in fourth and fifth grade read poems depending on the season and short stories which help their reading comprehension of the Spanish language. They have also learned new vocabulary words depending on the season, greetings, holidays, weather, and feelings. Also, the students in each class reviewed calendar vocabulary such as fecha, dia, mes, and año. Each grade has reviewed and learned to write and say the numbers in Spanish. The students have also practiced communication skills in Spanish by having conversations with each other in groups or individually about the different topics taught in class. The students practiced the pronunciation of the new vocabulary by asking questions and answering in Spanish in complete sentences. Using music, videos, games, and presentations, students practice speaking, reading, and writing the Spanish language.

Fourth grade

The fourth-grade students did exercises learning the parts of the house and the city. They also made a poster in which they drew the house and the city of their dreams. Practicing pronunciation, they made the presentation in class and recorded a short video explaining the poster using only Spanish vocabulary.  The students asked each other questions on different topics so they practiced communication using the Spanish language. Using new vocabulary words, the students learned to write, read, and pronounce the articles or objects in the classroom. They also learned to use definite and indefinite articles by using them in complete sentences in plural or singular.  Students will continue learning food, prepositions, family, possessive adjectives, and more.

 Fifth grade

The fifth-grade students practiced using singular and plural personal pronouns to make complete sentences. Also, they have learned the conjugation of the verb to be “ser, estar” and the verbs that end in “er, ir”, depending on the plural and singular pronouns in the present tense. They also practiced how to write, read, and pronounce the numbers with 6 digits in Spanish. Reading comprehension practice has been done by reading and analyzing short stories and poems and answering questions in Spanish about the reading.  Students learned about food by creating a presentation of their own restaurant and practiced pronunciation by having a conversation between customer and waiter. For the students to practice the Spanish language in comprehension, writing, and speaking, they completed several exercises at home and sometimes in class using the Duolingo website.   Students will continue learning about the conjugation of the verbs ending in “ar”.  Also, about time and household chores and more topics.
