Under the premise that health is life, our fourth and fifth graders are exploring what makes us healthy inside out, through perspectives of the Spanish-speaking world and our own.

After learning about nutritional practices in places like Argentina in South America and comparing it to those of people in the United States, fourth graders created sample menus using Google Jamboard and engaged in conversation about how healthy their nutrition is. Yet, we could not forget about our environment as it gives us the resources we need to live healthily and happily. Therefore, with the help of the online tool Flipgrid, Spanish students are sharing elements of our natural world as well as advice, using images and voice to create short videos.

In fifth grade classes, we delved into the concept of heroism and the human qualities that make us positive contributors to the world around us and build healthy relationships with others. From cartoons of famous superheroes in the Spanish-speaking world to poetry created to honor special family members, students have reflected on what it means to be a hero through reading comprehension, writing, and conversational activities, also supported by online technological tools.
