We’ve figured out how to get out and be safe TOGETHER! Come out to enjoy a relaxing “night hike” at Flat Rock Brook Nature Center – exclusively for the Lower School families of Dwight Englewood School. Reflecting our COVID safety protocols, each hike will host a separate grade, thus maintaining our safety!
Dates:
- Monday, May 3: Grade 2
- Tuesday, May 4: Grade 4
- Wednesday, May 5: Grade 1
- Thursday, May 6: Grade 5
- Friday, May 7: Kindergarten
- Monday, May 10: Grade 3
- Tuesday, May 11: PreSchool 3 & 4
Time: 7:00 pm – 8:15 pm
- Park opens exclusively to pre-registered D-E families at 7:00 pm.
- Choose your own hike and let your child lead the way – from .5 of a mile to a bit more!
- A special map will be provided upon registration
- Most families walk these trails in about an hour
- Sunset is at 7:40 pm; you can plan to finish before that or enjoy the sunset and the relaxing time as the forest goes from daylight to dusk.
- Our hikes should be complete by 8:15 with your family on your way by 8:30.
- What a great way to end a day!
Parking & Sundry Other:
- Park in the Nature Center Parking lot, right off of Van Nostrand Avenue.
- Wear sturdy shoes and sneakers. Dress in layers.
- Long pants and light-colored clothing are recommended – please do a tick check after the hike. (Tick Check Song)
- We are ahead of the mosquitos, so this hike should be relatively bug-free!
- Walking quietly might allow you to hear owls and bullfrogs. Bullfrog Calls
- Please stay on the trails! It keeps you out of any poison ivy that might be sprouting, and it helps maintain the integrity of nature’s neighborhoods.
- Give your child the map to help mark your journey and let them lead the way!
