As campus transitions from winter to spring, the 5th grade has been soaking up all the sunshine during Science class. The students have sparked imaginative discussions in class about our cosmic neighbors in the solar system. Scientists are currently discovering new information about other planets, which is inspiring the students to appreciate all that Earth has to offer. As the students continue to dive deeper into the facts behind our changing climate, it is important to focus on the positive traits about how our planet provides for us and all other biodiversity.

We have turned Earth Day into an Earth ‘Week’ to allow the students to focus a bit further on spreading advocacy for our planet, all over our campus. From brainstorm sessions to gathering materials, each class has created their own project to celebrate Earth Week. The students have created artwork, posters, games and outdoor activities. The excitement for learning more about our planet has set a productive mindset as we will start to learn about systems thinking and how the term ‘sustainability’ applies to many examples. The first step to change is always awareness, which has stimulated many ideas for our integrated Sustainability Project, which will start in just a few weeks.
