Kindergarteners and first graders are preparing for their Valentine’s Day Concert.  The music department is very excited that Dr. De Jarnett is allowing families who are vaccinated to come to see the performance during the school day.  It will mark the first time since COVID that we are allowing parents into the school. The concert will take place on February 14 in the Hajjar Auditorium.

Second graders have been enjoying singing songs about Lunar New Year, Black History, and working with our BOOMWHACKERS, pitched tubes that make different musical sounds. They love playing songs while reading the music notes and rhythms. They are also preparing for their very first spring concert.

Third grade is busily working on learning two new notes on the recorder.  They are now ready to read and play the notes C, D, B, A, and G. We are also getting ready for their spring concert, during which they will sing, play recorder and dance!

Fourth graders have been working with the Orff pitched percussion instruments learning to play songs on the bass, alto, and soprano xylophones and metallophones, as well as the soprano and alto glockenspiel.  Each homeroom is working on a different piece of music that they will present at the spring concert.

Our fifth graders have been busily working on their original operas.  Each homeroom has formed their own opera company, and using the theme of BELONGING, have come up with three completely different and exciting stories, music, and designs. At this point, the scripts have been written, the music to the opening arias have been completed, the set and costume designers have been sketching, and the public relations teams have been working on designing a logo for their company and writing a press release. All 3 original operas will be presented in April.
