Typically, the cooler weather means a slowdown in physical activity but not for our youngest Bulldogs. This time of year, our Lower School students will be learning the importance of physical fitness and teamwork through the participation of fall sports (soccer, flag football, rookie rugby), and during some of our favorites (jump rope/rhythmic activities, parachute activities, scooter games and Ninja Warrior obstacle challenges in our gymnastics unit). Students in kindergarten through fifth grade will also learn how to assess and measure fitness levels during the FitnessGram. Throughout the year, mindfulness is woven into the curriculum, increasing awareness of mind-body connections. This year, as they are learning about the importance of lifetime fitness, students will also learn the importance of nutrition in relationship to physical activity. This will occur during Health and Wellness classes and in the homeroom, as our health curriculum launches after Parent Conferences.

The Great Body Shop Health Curriculum will start with an introduction to The Critical Thinking Processes-Decision Making, Predicting Consequences and Goal Setting. In December, we will start with our first unit-Nutrition. Each week there will be a different Nutrition Challenge:

More information about these Nutrition challenges will appear soon in the “Just the Facts” weekly Friday handout . Check out these parent websites for more information about the activities happening in Health and Wellness:
