The Fourth and Fifth Graders have been making all kinds of three-dimensional art in our current cycle. The Fourth Graders studied the importance of Sneaker Culture and then designed and constructed their own paper sneakers. They have since mastered using pom-pom makers and are now exploring various sculpting methods with air dry clay.

The Fifth Graders have also been making a variety of clay sculptures, and they just started crafting their own papier-mâché masks. We have been practicing cultural appreciation as we design these masks and research mask-making in our respective cultures.

Virtual Fourth and Fifth Graders have had opportunities to sculpt with cardboard and model magic, and they have been exploring Chuck Close’s grid method for photorealistic drawing. I have also been getting the Fifth Graders excited about their transition to Middle School Art next year. While I am sad to see them go, I am so proud of their self-expression, perseverance, and joy in the process of art-making.
