Lower School Band Program 2025-2026!

Submitted by Jared Newlen and Owen Caprell, Lower School Band Instructors

The Lower School Band program is recruiting students for the 2025-2026 school year! Band is open to fourth and fifth grade students who play flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, French horn, Trombone, and percussion. We rehearse Mondays after school from 3:30 – 4:30, perform for the LS students in December, and perform at the Orchestra Extravaganza in April.

Joining the Lower School Band will prepare students for Middle School Orchestra. Many students who are in band also take private lessons on campus with my faculty through the Private Music Lesson Program. Current Upper School students who started playing their instruments in Lower School Band said how much being in Lower School Band prepared them for their current ensembles like Upper School Orchestra, Stage Band and Jazz Workshop. Whether you are a beginner or advanced student, we have a place for you to play your instrument here at the Dwight-Englewood School!

If you have any questions about joining the band for next year, or even how to start playing a musical instrument, please contact Mr. Newlen and Mr. Caprell so they can get you started and point you in the right direction. Registration for band through the ACE program will begin in August, but it’s good to get started early. We look forward to hearing from families and meeting all the new students joining the band!
