Science

The Preschoolers and Kindergarteners (virtual and in-person) now recognize everything is made of matter by questioning, “What is the world made of?”  They observed our world through the expectations of a scientist. They built awareness of using their five senses since scientists use different tools to study the world.  They conducted an in-depth investigation of how their senses help them learn and what happens if one or two are not functioning well.

In the past two weeks, they have developed an understanding of organisms (living and nonliving) by observing, classifying objects, stories, videos, and hands-on activities. Living things need air, water, light, nutrients, and space to grow and reproduce, while non-living things do not eat, grow, move or reproduce. They grasped the concept that non-living things do not have senses.  They closed this cycle, learning to differentiate between solids and liquids and the fact that matter can change states, by experimenting with ice and water.

French

Through songs such as Bonjour, hands-on activities, and colorful visual aids, the children could follow simple instructions in the French language.  During this first cycle, they had fun learning how to welcome each other through the vocabulary for day and night.  They distinguished themselves as fille et garçon and responded ça va bien or comme çi comme ça to how they are feeling.  Classroom activities and discussions consisted of information to build their knowledge of the beginning ten alphabet and the numbers 1-10.  They celebrated the holidays, coloring a snowman, making snowflakes and naming the colors.

In the past two weeks, they actively sorted out colors and quantified numbers, and started to identify parts of the body.  Each class consisted of a review of the previously learned lesson.  The children enjoyed songs, videos, played games, interacted with their teachers, and displayed with pride their appreciation for the French culture.
