The students in third, fourth, and fifth grades are currently working on speaking, reading, and understanding the Spanish language. Students are also developing strong communication skills in Spanish by formulating complete sentences about the weather, holidays, greetings, the calendar, numbers, and some classroom instructions such as ¿puedo ir al baño, tengo una pregunta, and un momento por favor.

They also learned to describe themselves using expressions like ¿Quién Soy Yo?: (Who Am I?), mi nombre es, cuantos años tengo, mi color favorito, mi deporte favorito o actividad, yo vivo en, mi familia tiene. Students practice their pronunciation skills of different vocabulary words using songs and videos.

In third grade, students learn the seasons, the months and how to describe the weather. They also learn some new basic vocabulary words, and we read short poems in Spanish to increase their vocabulary abilities. During Hispanic Heritage Month, students chose a famous Hispanic person to research.

Fourth and fifth grade students learned about Hispanic heritage month by making presentations using google slides about their favorite Spanish speaking country and some famous Hispanic people. Fifth grade students are building their communication skills by using question words in complete sentences. Students are beginning to practice a more prolonged conversation with their peers. With these in-class exercises students are able to learn about each other and also learn different ways to express themselves in Spanish.
